چکیده

The rising car usage deriving from growth in jobs and residential population results in air pollution, energy waste and unproductive and unpleasant consumption of people’s time. Public transport cannot be the only answer to this increasing transport demand. Car pooling has emerged to be a viable possibility for reducing private car usage in congested areas. Its actual practice requires a suitable information system support and, most important, the capability of effectively solving the underlying combinatorial optimization problem. This paper presents a brief introduction to the problem of car pooling, gives a formal definition of one variant of car pooling, the long term car pooling problem, argues on the soundness of the problem formulation, and proves the long term car pooling problem to be NP-complete.

Modeling of Partial Digest Problem as a Network flows problem

Restriction Site Mapping is one of the interesting tasks in Computational Biology. A DNA strand can be thought of as a string on the letters A, T, C, and G. When a particular restriction enzyme is added to a DNA solution, the DNA is cut at particular restriction sites. The goal of the restriction site mapping is to determine the location of every site for a given enzyme. In partial digest metho...

Solving Path Following Problem for Car-Like Robot in the Presence of Sliding Effect via LMI Formulation

One of the main problems of car-like robot is robust path following in the presence of sliding effect. To tackle this problem, a robust mix H2/H∞ static state feedback control method is selected. This method is the well-known linear robust controller which is robust against external disturbance as well as model uncertainty. In this paper, the path following problem is formulated as linear matri...

Solving a New Multi-Period Mathematical Model of the Rail-Car Fleet Size and Car Utilization by Simulated Annealing

There is a significant interaction between sizing a fleet of rail cars and its utilization. This paper presents a new multi-period mathematical model and a solution procedure to optimize the rail-car fleet size and freight car allocation, wherein car demands, and travel times, are assumed to be deterministic, and unmet demands are backordered. This problem is considered NP-complete. In other wo...

Zero-Knowledge Proof for the Independent Set Problem

SUMMARY An efficient computational Zero-Knowledge Proof of Knowledge whose security relies on the NP-completeness of the Independent Set Problem is presented here. The proposed algorithm is constructed from a bit commitment scheme based on the hardness of the Discrete Logarithm Problem, which guarantees the fulfillment of soundness, completeness and computational zero-knowledge properties, and ...

A New Mathematical Formulation for Multi-product Green Capacitated Inventory Routing Problem in Perishable Products Distribution Considering Dissatisfaction of Customers

In this paper, we propose a new mathematical model for Capacitated Inventory Routing Problem (CIRP), which considers freshly delivery of perishable products to the customers’ location; otherwise, a reduction in products’ demand may occur. Therefore, we attempt to plan delivering process of products at the right time to avoid extra inventory causing increase in age of products. This ...
